About this course

Paradigm Medical Australia is a Course Centre for both the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and Resuscitation Australia (RA), running ALS1 and ALS2 courses through each provider. These courses are aimed at healthcare professionals — including doctors, nurses, paramedics and emergency service officers — and provide candidates with the skills and knowledge to recognise, assess and manage the deteriorating patient, including the management of cardiac arrest.

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at a facility organised by the training provider.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise early signs of patient deterioration in acute and emergency care settings

  • Conduct systematic assessment of patients experiencing clinical deterioration

  • Implement immediate management strategies to stabilise patients during the initial crisis period

  • Apply clinical decision-making skills to prioritise care and escalate concerns appropriately

  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams during the management of a deteriorating patient

It is not essential to complete the ALS1 prior to the ALS2. However the ALS2 does have a higher level of expected knowledge and recent clinical exposure to critical/crisis events at the commencement of the course.

Certification for the courses is valid for up to 4 years. Recertification courses are available for both the ALS1 and ALS2 courses at ARC Course Centres. The recertification face-to-face component of each course is approximately half the length of the initial course.

Duration

Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) ALS1: Face-to-Face contact time of at least 1 full day. ALS2: Face-to-Face contact time of at least 2 full days. ALS2 Recertification: Face-to-Face contact time of at least 1 day.

Resuscitation Australia (RA) ALS1: eLearning plus Face-to-Face contact time of at least 4 Hours ALS2: eLearning plus Face-to-Face contact time of at least 8 Hours ALS2 Recertification: eLearning plus Face-to-Face contact time of at least 4 Hours
